Infrared Thermal Camera Used for Monitoring Asphalt Pavement

With the rapid development of economy, asphalt pavement has replaced more and more cement pavement, such as high-speed, national highway, etc. Asphalt pavement has good elasticity and plasticity, and the pavement is easy to maintain and repair. In construction, the asphalt mixture pavement temperature control is very important, because the asphalt mixture is easy to produce temperature segregation in the production, transportation, paving, rolling process, the temperature drop rate due to the different location of the mixture, lead to difference in temperature on asphalt mixture, therefore, for the asphalt pavement temperature monitoring is very important.

Traditional asphalt mixture temperature monitoring methods because of its randomness, time delay, limitations, security, not real, fully reflecting the temperature distribution characteristics of asphalt mixture, such as thermocouple thermometer inserted into the method and infrared ray temperature marksmanship, can only detect the temperature of a point, do not represent the point of the temperature distribution in the whole situation in the neighborhood, not a true reflection temperature segregation of asphalt mixture. Infrared thermal camera can reflect the temperature distribution of the whole road surface. At present, infrared thermal camera has been used in asphalt pavement temperature monitoring in China.

 

Infrared thermal imager is a passive infrared imaging system, using the infrared radiation emitted by the object itself to detect the object, through the measurement of the infrared energy of the object's own radiation, it can accurately determine the surface temperature of the object. The infrared thermal imager can be installed in the front end of paver or roller. During construction, the infrared thermal imager can monitor the heat distribution of the whole pavement area in real time, so as to monitor and solve the temperature segregation phenomenon during construction.

 

Detailed application of infrared thermal camera in asphalt concrete pavement temperature monitoring:

(1) Temperature monitoring of asphalt mixture during mixing and transportation;

(2) Temperature monitoring of asphalt mixture in transport-paving stage;

(3) Asphalt mixture temperature monitoring during paving and rolling stage;

(4) Asphalt mixture temperature monitoring in the rolling stage.

Infrared thermal imager is applied to asphalt pavement monitoring to ensure the construction quality and prolong the service life of asphalt pavement by monitoring the temperature of each process.
