Continuous casting is a process in which liquid steel is poured, condensed and cut by a continuous casting machine. The surface temperature of slab during continuous casting is an important parameter to adjust the speed of drawing, the water distribution of secondary cooling and the depth of liquid phase cavity. Whether surface defects or internal defects of continuous casting slab will affect the uniformity of the overall temperature of the slab, and whether there are defects in continuous casting slab can be obtained through temperature data. So it is very important to measure the temperature of continuous casting slab.

Because the continuous casting billet is directly exposed to high water vapor and high temperature environment, the surface of the continuous casting billet is easy to produce the phenomenon of oxidation scale. If the method of single point temperature measurement is used, it is difficult to fully understand the real temperature of the casting billet surface, and the efficiency is low. Generally, it is not recommended to use point thermometer and thermocouple for slab temperature measurement, but recommended to use infrared thermal imager for continuous casting slab temperature measurement.

The infrared thermal imager has obvious advantages in the temperature measurement of continuous casting slab:

1, easy to install and use, the thermal imager basically has no vulnerable parts, one installation can be used for many years;

2, face array temperature measurement, can monitor multiple points at the same time, minimize the influence of oxide, can get more comprehensive temperature information;

3, non-contact temperature measurement, does not affect the normal production, to ensure the safety of personnel, the result is more reliable;

4, the infrared thermal imager can record temperature data, which is very important for the staff to carry out subsequent analysis, can provide temperature data support for the improvement process;

5, you can set the alarm temperature, for too high or low temperature can set the alarm reminder, the infrared thermal camera will warn the abnormal temperature in advance.

Monitoring the surface temperature of continuous casting slab with infrared thermal imager is of great significance for controlling the water quantity reasonably, adjusting the casting speed, analyzing the solidification mechanism of casting slab, determining the straightening method and improving the quality of casting slab.

The infrared thermal imager can be applied in multiple processes in the continuous casting and rolling production line, such as participating in the continuous casting billet temperature monitoring, pre-rolling steel failure temperature monitoring, finished product temperature monitoring, etc., which can ensure the requirements for steel temperature control in each process, not only to ensure safe production, but also to improve product quality, optimize product process, improve efficiency, and reduce energy consumption.
